FOODS

The food scene in Copenhagen is glorious. 17 Michelin starred restaurants, of which many has affordable sister restaurants. New restaurants are popping up everywhere, challenging, renewing and improving the Copenhagen food scene. There are foodmarkets all over the city, some permanent, some pop ups. High quality take away foods and ever present and diverse streetfood, for urban picnics or the hotel room.

 

There is so much good food in Copenhagen!

 

That, of course, makes it even more difficult to give an overview or recomend particulars.

 

Never the less, I've tried to narrow things down to a few recomendations in each of my favorite parts.

 

Unfortunately, I don't have personal experience with all the mentioned rastaurants, particularly the Michelin starred ones, but I'm sure they will provide.

NØRREBRO

 

Michelin:

 

Relæ, in Jægersborggade, will serve you michelin starred organic gourmet food at very reasonable prises(the categori considered). Atmosphere is casual.

 

Kiin Kiin, in Guldbergsgade, is the only michelin starred Thai restaurant outside Thailand.

 

Siblings:

 

Manfreds in Jægersborggade is a sister restaurant to Relæ(the michelin starred one mentioned above) on the other side of the street and will use the same ingredients and serve high quality food at very reasonable prises.

 

Aroii in Guldbergsgade is a sister take-away restaurant to Kiin Kiin.

 

Traditional Danish:

 

Rita's in Fælledvej 11 serves all the old school Danish smørrebrød classics at very reasonable prices.

 

'Provins' in Rantzausgade, serves traditional Danish food,

 

Pizzas:

 

Bæst in Guldbergsgade, serves organic gourmet pizzas, it was named the 8th best pizza place in the world in 2019 by The Guardian. It is the same michelin starred chef behind Bæst, who is behind Relæ and Manfreds.

 

Frankies Pizza, Sortedams Doseringen, is part of the Madklubben chain and serves gourmet Pizzas at resonable prises.

 

Pico Pizza in Skyttegade serves delicious mini pizzas – three for 100 dkk.

 

Quatro Stagioni in Jagtvej, Stefanos in Stefansgade and Nino's Pizzeria in Guldbergsgade, all serves traditional, high quality pizzas at fair prises.

 

 

Burgers:

 

Sliders serves miniburgers, sliders, so you can try different types. They have nine different. You can get fries with 24 carat gold flakes.

 

Cocks & Cows, Ravnsborggade, Grillen in Nørrebrogade are both chain burger restaurants that serves good burgers.

 

Foodmarkets:

 

In Nørrebro you will find pop up foodmarkets at festivals and events throughout the year.

 

 

Vegetarian:

 

Most places will have vegetarian choises also or they will make it. There are lots of vegetarians in Copenhagen.

 

Cafe Mahalle serves mid-eastern vegetarian food in Birkegade.

 

Grød in Jægersborggade, serves nutricious and delicious porridge

 

 

Speciels:

 

Snack & Blues, Guldbergsgade, delicate snacks, in diner blues environment.

 

Ramen to Biiru, Japanese ramen and Mikkeler beers.

 

Food Club in Sortedamsdoseringen 7C, is a buffet restaurant with an ever changing menu. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options also meat options. You pay per hour. For example 275 kr. on weekdays to dine and drink for 1,5 hour.

VESTERBRO

 

Michelin:

 

Formel B in Vesterbrogade, will treat you with modern organic gourmetfood in a relaxed environment. It has one Michelin star.

 

Siblings:

 

Pony in Vesterbrogade is a sibling to Michelin starred Kadeau in Christianshavn and serves the same type of food at very reasonable prices.

 

Kiin Kiin Tok Tok in Vesterbro Torv is a sister Restaurant to Michelin starred Kiin Kiin in Nørrebro. Three regional Thai kitchens in one with three different chefs.

 

 

Traditional Danish:

 

Restaurant Øl & Brød

Modern interpretation of traditional Danish food, with Mikkeler craft beer and snaps. Recomended by the Michelin guide.

 

Frk. Barners Kølder in Helgolandsgade, has traditional old school Danish Food in classic surroundings.

 

Café Dyrehaven in Sønder Boulevard serves informal traditional Danish food with a twist in very casual and old school surroundings.

 

Fleisch, in Kødbyen, is a butcher/restaurant that offers quality Danish smørrebrød for lunch.

 

 

Pizzas:

 

Mother in Kødbyen, serves organic gourmet pizzas, it was named the 11th best pizza place in the world in 2019 by the renowned 50 Top Pizza.

 

NBH-Neighboorhood in Istedgade has papert thin delicious gourmet pizzas.

 

La Forretta in Istedgade makes good and cheap traditional Pizza.

 

Itzi Pizzi Pizza in Sønder Boulevard, very good Pizzas at resonable prises.

 

 

 

Burgers:

 

Jagger in Istedgade, served next level burgers in nice surroundings.

 

Sliders in Istedgade serves miniburgers, sliders, so you can try different types. They have nine different. You can get fries with 24 carat gold flakes.

 

Grillen Burger Bar is a chain with 7 different quality burgers, three different fries and B&J milkshakes.

 

Tommis Burger Joint in Kødbyen is a small Islandic chain with three restaurants in Denmark. Good burgers, fries, dips and shakes.

 

Halifax Vesterbrogade is another chain, serving good quality brugers. n

 

 

Foodmarkets:

 

In Vester bro you will find pop up foodmarkets at festivals and events throughout the year.

 

 

Vegetarian:

 

Most places will have vegetarian choises also or they will make it. There are lots of vegetarians in Copenhagen.

 

California Kitchen in Vesterbrogade has big tasty salt bowler you compose your self. You can also choose meat options.

 

'Grød' in Vesterbrogade, serves nutricious and delicious porridge.

 

MadGlad in Eskildsgade has a simple homemade, tasty buffet, mainly vegetarian but also some meat dishes. atmosphere very informal and prices are cheap.

 

BOB – Biomio Organic Bistro in Halmtorvet has mostly vegan and vegetarian, but also sustainable meat options from happy animals.

 

 

Speciels:

 

Kødbyens Fiskebar in Kødbyen(The Meat Packing District) serves delicious fish and good vine.

 

Enomania in Vesterbrogade serves italian gourmet food and wine.

 

John Hotdog Deli in Kødbyen makes the best hotdogs in the city, possibly in the country. Prices are very reosonable. You can also buy Hot Sauce from Mikkellers in nive bottles.

 

In Madklubben ion Vesterbrogade you will get high quality food with no nonense at very good prises.

 

In LêLê in Vesterbrogade, you can eat Vietnamese food in lively surroundings.

 

Ramen to Biiru, Enghavevej, is an affiliate to the one i Nørrebro and has Japanese ramen and Mikkeler beers.

 

KIHOSK, Sønder Boulevard, has sandwiches, bottled craft beer and groceries.

 

Mad & Kaffe in Sønder Boulevard has brilliant breakfast, good coffee and accalaimed burgers.

 

WarPigs is a brewpub in Kødbyen thats serves Texas BBQ and Danish Mikkeller craft beer.

CHRISTIANSHAVN

 

 

Michelin:

 

The worlds best restaurant, at least named so four times, is Noma in the northern part bordering Refshaleøen. New Nordic cuisine in its most experimental form, awarded with two Michelin stars.

 

Its sister restaurant, 108, by the Inner Harbor Bridge (Inderhavnsbroen), has only one star and will serve food in a more casual envirronment, to more reasonable prices. They have 10 seats for walk inns.

 

Era Ora by the canal, has been named the best Italian restaurant, outside Italy, in the world and has a cheaper sister restaurant L'Altro in Torvegade.

 

Kadeau, in Wildersgade is a highly acclaimed two Michelin starred restaurant, with a next door cocktail bar called 1408.

 

No. 2 in the harbor with a view to the Black Diamond Library on the other side, is a sister restaurant to two starred AOC near the Royal Palace.

 

 

Traditional Danish:

 

You can find delicious traditional Danish food in Færgecafeen in Strandgade by the water in old school maritime settings,. Try the smørrebrød for lunch or some other classics for dinner. They have home made snaps with different flavors to accompany the food. They have seating also in a ship in front of the restaurant.

 

 

Pizzas:

 

Take a pizza to go (to the canal) in Tino's in Skt. Annæ Gade, some sushi from Let's Sushi in the corner on the other side of the street or go to the out door food market next to the Inner Harbor Bridge for a variaty of delights(closed in winter).

 

Nicola in Wildersgade serves good traditional an Italian Pizzas also.

 

 

Burgers:

 

Grillen Burger Bar is a chain with 7 different quality burgers, three different fries and B&J milkshakes. There is one in Dronningensgade next to the square.

 

 

Vegetarian:

 

For a good veggie option check out Morgenstedet in Christiania.

 

Grøntsagen has a smaller organic food buffet, you pay according to weight of plate, with good veggie options.

 

Organic Boho in Prinsessegade has organic vegan food and juices.

Speciels:

 

Nærvær is an intimate stylish gourmet restaurant with space for twelve.

 

Spisehuset 56 degrees has new Nordic food at reasonable prices in roustique settings at an old bastion building.

 

Brødflov is a bakery in Torvegade, it has good Danish Pastry and sandwiches.

 

There is a Lagkagehuset bakery shop in the corner of the square also with high quality bakeries and pastries.

 

For a bigger variety of sandwiches Vandkunsten Sandwich at Torvegade near the square makes some good ones.

 

Good Sushi at Sushi Saiko in Skt. Annæ Gade or alternatively in Letz Sushi, a chain in the same street at the corner.

 

For good french cuisine, visit Skt. Annæ 8, also in that street or in Lalala in Strandgade.

 

For good (and pricey) craft beer, try Barr next to the Inner Harbor Bridge.
